Madden 2011 Cover Release Date: Drew Brees Madden Curse? – The cover of the popular American football video game, Madden 2011, will feature New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees. Brees won his first Superbowl last season with the Saints, but has been a dominant quarterback in the national football league for several years. Being placed on the cover of the video has long been considered a curse for players, as most of the players who have been placed on the cover later suffer an injury that puts a damper on their season.

The game franchise first started to feature players on their cover in 2002, and the curse has seemingly held up since then. In seasons before 2002, John Madden was always featured on the cover. The first year that the game featured a player on the cover, Daunte Culpepper was featured. While Culpepper did not suffer an injury the season that he was awarded the Madden cover, he did have an off-year, throwing more interceptions than he had previously and finishing below .500 on a Vikings team that was favored by many to win the division.

Other notable players that graced the cover of the game before suffering setbacks during the season include former Seattle Seahawk Shaun Alexander and Vince Young. Alexander would break his arm early in the season and never returned to the all-pro form that he displayed the season before. Vince Young also suffered an injury shortly after appearing on the Madden cover.

Last season was the first season that EA Sports featured two different players on the cover. Both Larry Fitzgerald and Troy Polamalu were featured on the cover last season, and both players did experience some health problems. Troy Polamalu missed most of the season after injuring his leg, and Fitzgerald missed some time as well.

The release date for Madden 2011 is August 10, 2010.
